Released in 2011, Susten Pass is the debut full-length album from Berlin-based artist duo Axel and Michael Ebert on Mindwaves Music. Following a year of extensive European performances, the album serves as a sophisticated synthesis of their background in video art and live AV-performance, capturing the transition from micro-edited studio precision to raw, atmospheric soundscapes.
The record is structured as a cinematic journey through contrasting sonic terrains. It oscillates between the “slow-motion” ambient sceneries of tracks like “Chrono” and the abrasive, darker textures of “Feature Film.” Throughout the album, the Ebertbrothers navigate various electronic territories—from the electro-influenced rhythms of “Downrock Crooza” to the avant-garde, almost pastoral experimentation of “Cowboy.” The release concludes with the shimmering, expansive title track, marking a high point in their collaborative output. Notably, the album includes a dedicated tribute to the late Joe Papa of Controlled Bleeding, further anchoring the work within the broader context of industrial and experimental music history.
