For our July installment of the Mindcast series, we are delighted to welcome The Hague-based sound designer and producer EDWARD J (formerly Generate). His soundscapes move seamlessly between abstract and emotional realms, blurring the boundaries between complex intricacy and profound serenity.
Beyond his solo work, Edward J (Edward Johannes) is a core member of INDEX Music, where he helps shape the platform’s vision, curates live events, and showcases unusual electronic music through special mixes and event series such as ‘Sonic Waves’ at ‘The Grey Space In The Middle’ in The Hague. His drive to push boundaries is reflected in his latest musical releases, including his fast-paced IDM, jungle, and breaks tracks on the ‘Azurite’ EP via Terra Atomika, as well as the split EP ‘Sudden Fiction / Dots,’ created in collaboration with Foresense and released via Antilounge Den Haag.
This exclusive anniversary mixtape perfectly encapsulates his versatile identity and weaves a sonic tapestry of abstract, ambient, IDM, electro, breaks, and bass music. Here are a few moving words from the artist himself about the deeper meaning behind this compilation:
“So much incredible music stays hidden, even though it’s easily on the same level as what’s much more known. I added a lot of tracks from friends and people close to me who make amazing work. Making this mix helped me slow things down and find some clarity in the chaos and steady my mind a bit.”
