MWM008 || Sofus Forsberg - FM Volta
In 2014, Sofus Forsberg released FM Volta, a significant milestone marking his first solo full-length since his 2005 debut Udefra. The album is the culmination of a nine-year period dedicated to deep synthesis research, modular exploration, and collaborative performances. It presents a sophisticated fusion of man-machine energies, specifically centered around the unpredictability and tactile nature of modular synthesizers, drum machines, and analog circuitry.
Conceptually, FM Volta is driven by Forsberg’s fascination with the geometric patterns of the natural world. By drawing inspiration from the Fibonacci sequence and fractal mathematics, the artist attempts to translate universal laws into sonic vibrations. The result is a “sonic animation” that shifts between bizarre, eccentric movements and dark, interstellar soundscapes. Influenced as much by the free-form spirit of John Coltrane and Jimi Hendrix as by the technical abstraction of Autechre, the album represents a defining pinnacle in Forsberg’s career—a complex, mathematical, yet deeply organic contribution to the Mindwaves Music catalog.
